Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve and celebrate American Swing-era music through dance and to expose the greater community to the joys of swing through education, dance events, performances, and outreach. We aim to create and promote opportunities for spectators, listeners, dancers, and musicians to interact with this African-American art form in their day-to-day lives.

Join us this February for a wintery weekend full of evening social dances to live jazz music with dancers from Utah and surrounding states, superb DJs for late-night dances, competitions, showcases, and days full of workshops. Come for the dancing stay for the skiing and enjoy the world’s greatest snow while making life-long swing connections.

LEVEL 1 LINDY HOP [8-WEEKS]

** We are in the second month of this 2-month series and are therefore not able to enroll new students into this class. Please join us for our next level 1 class beginning in March!

Level 1 Lindy Hop starts from the very beginning, focusing on partner connection and 6-count 8-count patterns that are essential for any Lindy Hopper. This is a longer 8-week course because there are some basics in here that can be fairly challenging. If you have to miss a week or two, let us know and come early the next week so we can catch you up. Lets get you out on the dance floor! No experience or partner required.

Helpful Information

  • Classes begin on the first Wednesday and Thursday of the month respectively unless otherwise specified.
  • All Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa lesson packages include 4 classes, once a week, that build on material covered in previous classes. For this reason, drop-ins are typically not allowed. If you pay the full class rate, it includes a FREE DANCE PASS for the month (except for nights with live music)! Check out our curriculum for more info.
  • During class, we highly encourage you to rotate to other partners as we believe that this helps you learn faster. However, if you came with a partner and you'd prefer to dance with each other the whole class, you are more than welcome to opt out of the rotation.
  • If you have to miss a class, let us know and we'll come early before the next class to catch you up. Unused class credits do not count as credit for future classes.
  • Very often, taking a class just once will not be enough for all of the information to stick. Therefore, we highly encourage everyone to retake classes as many times as you need to before you feel comfortable with the material. Lucky for you, we have a "Retake" rate! If you have taken a particular series before, e.g. Level 1 Charleston, and you want a refresher, choose the "Retake" option to take it again for less than half of the price! Many students do this and learn a lot the second or third time through. Our goal is to give students the incentive to retake classes and stay for the dance, so they can retain class material and improve faster. Please note, the Retake option does not include the dance pass.
  • If you're a full-time student/active military/65+, you get a $5 discount off the full price! Please select the appropriate option here and bring valid ID when checking in.
  • If the cost of classes or dances is prohibitive for you, please email anthony@saltcityswing.org and we will try to work something out!
